Hey guys, mostly on my crappy Dhell desktop I cruise the web, and check out all my favorite websites. I am thinking about getting a tablet, so I can sit in bed or in the living room and veg out. I have many questions, and was wondering if you could help me out: As always, it is greatly appreciated.

1) Can i easily access all my favorite sites on a tablet like my desktop? (Ihatedell, Amazon, Netlfix, Yahoo, etc. etc). I guess Im asking is the web browsing the same?

2) Does the touchscreen make it easy to navigate? When I had my laptop before getting canned at IBM (and losing the laptop) I really didnt like the little eraser nub thingee.

3) I have a wireless 2.4 GHz router which works fine with my PS3 and Roku box; would this be compatible with the tablet?

4) How does it work; like a laptop which you charge up and use the battery?

5) I am basically using the tablet for consumption purposes, not doing stuff or even any heavy duty video games and ease of use in my bed lol-what do you guys think about the tablets?

6) Im hearing stuff about operating systems; which is the best and does it use Windows? This is very confusing for me.

7) What specs should I look for? Im looking for something about $300 or so; Ive read that Ipads are not necessarily the best.

Also, any links on suggestions to buy (except Dhell of course )
Thanks in advance; I really have no clue about tablets but hope to make an informed decision thru research and your valued opinions.

Thank you,
Alfalfa 8)

We may not have all that many tablet types here. I'm sure not one.

Honest, I don't have ANY data on today's Gateway. Either quality or support.

Following the general rule we all know, if it gives you any static AT ALL during the return period, return it and look elsewhere. Same thing we tell Dell customers.

I doubt they have improved that much from their crappy days yet.

I have a Gateway P5-75 Family PC purchased in the summer of 1995. Upgraded the RAM twice to 64 Meg (it came with 15); upgraded the hard drive twice - from 800 Meg to 1.6 to a 2 Gig Western Digital, replaced the original monitor when it died in 2004 ... and it still boots up every month. All other parts are factory original. That's because, back then, companies actually put quality into their machines!

And, about 1 1/2 years after purchase I went on vacation. Came back 2 1/2 weeks later and the PC wouldn't boot. Turned out they had used a line of WD drives that had a problem with the lubricant hardening if the drive wasn't turned on every few days. Gateway replaced the drive with the 1.6 Gig FOR FREE! (It didn't come loaded with the OS or software like it did when I bought it, but that was okay.) Has Dhell EVER provided that kind of customer service to regular folks like you and me?

Hey guys I got the Gateway today and its a sweet little computer. The touchpad is kinda meh, but I just plugged in my mouse and its rocking. I know Acer owns Gateway now but I'm very pleased with the quality.

Absolutely Rocke and ty; it was 279.99. It kinda sucks, because today Best Buy had an early deal for 249.99 today for the same model, but they sold out quickly so I'm not beating myself up. I sent them an email to see if they would refund the $30 difference, but I'm still waiting to hear back............lol

Yeah with the wireless, there doesn't seem to be any lag, etc. I can run Netflix, Youtube with no issues. The speakers are crappy, but its a laptop. It was well packaged and is a nice, well built computer, and I think I got a fairly good deal for it. It looks like Wal-Mart is going to have a similar computer (HP?) for $248 for black Friday.

PS They say for the rule of TVs, when it doubt go bigger, not smaller-I almost went with a 11.6 Acer, but someone had a concern about the wireless setup, so I got this instead and more screen real estate; Im really glad I did.

Yeh, figured they were around $300. Can't hardly buy anything without turning around and finding it cheaper IF there are still any left.

I have a Logitek USB wireless that works well. But it's 2 parts (mouse, receiver) and you have to remember to turn it on and off with a button underneath or the batteries run down needlessly while not in use.

I agree with Rocke here. I have a Logitech M510. It is two parts (the mouse and wirless receiver), but for someone with large hands, it is very easy to grasp and use.
