Every night before you go home, copy all emails from your Outlook Inbox and subfolders to your archive.pst file. Then copy that file to a USB flash stick. If it's too big, create multiple archive files.
Any documentation that you have - hit the copy machine or copy files to a USB flash stick.
Leave nothing personal on or in your desk - take it all home now, if you haven't done so. Be prepared so taht if or when it happens, you can go right out the door and leave nothing behind that you value (except maybe some friendships).
That's the lesson I learned when Dell dumped me and 5700 other employees in 2001. When I got whacked at another employer, where management screwed up and lost 2 of their top 10 customers, they had layoffs to cover up their incompetence. When I got called to the conference room I left absolutely nothing behind that I gave a damn about; in fact, they were a bit surprised when they asked, "Do we need to escort you back to your desk for anything?" and I said "No!". |

I would imagine Dell employee's hate Dell because of all the managerial crap we have to put up with. It's hard enough listening to the whining of the customers without management making things worse with assinine policies.
The beaurocracy at Dell stifels and astounds, watching it in action is much like watching a train wreck; you know the ending isn't going to be pretty, but you just can't tear your eyes away...
Heck, it only took them 2 years to get my name right! _________________ "There are no angels to cath us when we fall; there is only the rain to wash away the blood." |

|

I admit that when I first started there in 99, I wanted to retire from there. I thought this, then, was a great company to work for and to pursue my career at Dell. That all changed and went downhill very quickly. I had several different managers come into our department, each time we got a different manager, shit got worse. They did care about how we were treated as far as individuals, just enough so that they didn't get fired basically. They had their pets that they didn't do anything wrong that got promoted and good rasies and the people that really kept the department going and knew the shit got shit on and screwed. These managers didn't help us, didn't stand up for our department's moral only just to get their paycheck. Everytime I went into my so called 1 on 1's, more like 6 on 1's it was a lie. Some shit that they made up!!!! (Here's a tip 'Dell management', you can never remember a lie) They do this so that they can dictate who they want and where they want to place the individual or get rid of them. In other words, you don't have a leg to stand on in anything they say, period. They kept all the proof of my metrics, didn't show anything proving any metrics, only to tell me that this is my number and a bunch of bullshit to go with it. Have you ever heard, Dell, the saying, "Can't bullshit a bullshitter?"
Dell wont improve, I've been there since 99, and it been going to the shitter ever since. In one of my other post, I stated the shoveling shit would be better than working for Dell.
I believe that management didn't want intelligent people promoted because they would be affraid that these people would take thier roles and they would be booted out and loose their presious paycheck that they don't deserve. One of many reasons. Just think if Dell would get rid of the diseased management and get someone in there that knew what they were doing and cooperated with other management and treated their employees right, no telling how much production Dell could produce and do right for the customer. That for one reason is why there is so much customer dissatisfaction with Dell's products. It trickles from us badly treated good workers to the customer's products and services. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't heard of other major computer companies having this bad of a reputation as Dell.
I'm sure that most of what I stated here has been posted on here somewhere but just needed to vent. _________________ Glad I'm out of that shit hole!!!! |

| Dell management is just a bunch of people sitting around and having a party. If they brought in someone who was actually willing to do their job, it would make them look bad, and then they would actually have to start doing some work. It's easier for them to just hire their friends, who are just as incompetent as they are. |

All tech support personnel, no matter what company, act the same way at first, but if you inform them in a nice manner that you're a tech yourself and that you've already followed the outlined procedures, they usually (90% of the times) change their attitude and really try to help in a supportive way.
If you want bad/ignorant tech support, try calling Telkom! (the only landline communications supplier in SA) _________________ You are what you believe! Be the Reason! Take pride in what you do! |

I'm not really an employee of Dell, I'm an outsource. Anyway, I still work for Dell in a way , still under the policies and all. And I hate Dell because they can be really really really really really stupid. I've been a sales rep for months and now I am considering leaving the job because I am just sooooooooooooo disappointed in how awful their strategies are. I mean, come on! They're like a really huge company and they suck! Talk about crap. Argh |

This is my first post and I really need to get this off my chest. For those managers or employees that believe they can retire from Dell "RICH" it is a lie. Sure sure save up your 401K and your stock options and buy allot of stock, but who are you kidding it was your money you saved it, Dell just added a little, trust me it is a little.
I was one of the first Dell Employes in fact I was hired in the first 200 people. I was laid off a few years back before becomming a Dell Fellow and acheiving 1 Million dollars in Stock options and 401K etc. They called me into a office and let me know how sorry they where to have to let me go, I knew that in one month that my patents and Dell fellow ship would have produced me over 1 million dollars and I was ready to leave and retire. But the evil Dell empire had other plans, let me go do not pay me for patents and save the company $. In fact I left Dell after 18 years with 155K in stock,, etc and 205K in 401K and I planned very well.
I had 4 children, started in the factory in 1987, moved to mgr. moved to IT then moved to Tech Support and I am one of those managers, people speak of on this forum.
I missed all four of my kids growing up due to the fact I was at work 10 hours a day. I gave almost 20 years of my life and my soul to Dell to be laid off right before I reach the big cash out. This is done allot, if you are not one of the "Dell Boys" you will not achive the big prise, I promise.
So 20 years = 350K for me and I will live ok. I am over 50 and this will keep me in sandwiches until I die. But the true facts about Dell behind close doors are:
If you are ethinic we had to keep one in every group.
Only a few are given stock options and it is a "freind thing only"
They taught me the Life Boat style of managment, pick 10 people keep them in the life boat with raises and stock options and try to get ride of the others. We can hire people back for cheaper.
I was let go in 2005, I have now got to know my family and see that the world is good. Dell was bad it took me 2 years for me to get over what they did to me and my soul. I really feel sorry for the people left working there now. I wish you luck, if you are reading this post.
" The world is a big place and work should not effect you life in a negative fashion, leave the Hell that is Dell and go do what you need to do to have
a good life.
I wasted 18 of my life giving and giving to get shitted on in the END. |

Employees start hating Dell because once you start working there for awhile, you'll notice that there is an obvious disconnect between upper management and the workers in the front lines. Workers also start to notice that upper management doesn't give a damn about your input either. The TELL DELL stuff is a bunch of nonsense. Management does not care whether they run you into the ground.
I was let go by Dell just before my 10 year anniversary. My manager put me on a PIP and then refused to remove it even after the performance metrics in the department changed during that time. I had substantially improved my performance during that time but that was not enough. IMHO, this stuff was done to keep from paying me severance in a layoff. Dell did not challenge me in unemployment at all. They were wise to do so because they would have had to appear before a court to explain everything.
Funny thing is that when I first started working at Dell, it really was not that bad. Our Area Manager really cared about the employees working under her. Naturally she did not last at Dell because of it. Most of my direct managers were super as well. I was always getting raises and bonuses. Only in the end did I realize what a heartless company Dell really is. |

Ah, the old "PIP/metrics" scam. Two close acquaintances were subjected to the same treatment.
They did NOT challenge your unemployment? They must have been busy destroying someone else's livelihood and overlooked it. Cash your blessings.
Dell treats employees like meatpackers treat hog intestines. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist
