Dell is expanding aggressively into systems management for small to midsize businesses with its acquisition of Kace, a company that it has been working with over the last several years.
Dell’s purchase of Kace gives it an important new management offering for those customers, as well as a new revenue stream for the Dell hardware on which Kace bundles its software, according to a report from the 451 Group, a technology investment research firm.
Dell announced the deal for Kace on Thursday. The purchase price was not disclosed, and the deal is expected to close by the end of April, according to the 451 Group. Kace will be absorbed into Dell’s consumer and small and medium business group but will function as a separate team.
Dell has in recent years been acquiring makers of systems management and related software dealing with small and midsize business. It bought SilverBack Technologies in July 2007 and the remote device manager Everdream in November 2007. This month, Dell bought the storage software vendor Exanet.
The analysts at the 451 Group say the acquisition of Kace will mainly benefit Dell’s desktop and notebook business, which competes with Hewlett-Packard, Acer, Lenovo, NEC, Toshiba and Apple. Of those, only Hewlett-Packard has its own system management offerings to rival Kace’s, those analysts note. The others mostly rely on partners.

This is for the "lucky" people at Kace. START LOOKING FOR A NEW JOB NOW!!!.
If you need to know why take a look at DHell's acquisition of Perot Systems. I know for a fact that the very same day DHell finished acquiring Perot Systems, the "blood letting" (aka layoff's) started. _________________ Q: How do you know Dell Management is lying to you?
A: Until proven otherwise, Assume EVERYTHING coming from Dell Management is a lie. |
