This may sound cruel, BUT WHO GIVES A RATS A** if Dell can be saved?
The way this company has acted in the last 4-6 years is assinine. There has been no coherent business plan, no concern for the customers or employees. Management can be said to have looted this company for thier own self-interest and benefit($$$$).
This may sound cruel too, but all the employees that are still there have seen layoffs coming for years as MD destroys his company. If you haven't paid off all your bills and put money away (preferably CASH), you can only blame yourself. Don't be surprised or shocked to get that tap on the shoulder or your badge doesn't open the door some morning.
As for the company called DELL, write it off now, Quit, find a job that will pay you, treat you like a human being and quit worrying about whether you will have a job tomorrow.
I suspect that the sooner MD destroys DELL, the happier he will be. He can jet around the with no responsibility for anything. He can visit Davos even when there is no financial meeting. (And get bitched slapped by someone I am sure.) _________________ rustyboots (i use to slave at dell) |

| I believe that the only viable outcome for Dell is to be purchased by Acer as they try to regain the US consumer market. HP would not be interested, and Lenovo has no need for consumer or the problems that come with it. Dell seems to be preparing for this by selling off US assets, which would not be interesting to Acer. I would look for a takeover as Dell stock tumbles down to the $4 range in the July timeframe. This will be before the web phone fiasco financials come in, and just in time for Top execs to retire while at the "top of their game". I see this as a potential buy out of bankruptcy, and the last we will hear from MD. |

I said less than $5 by June if I'm not mistaken. You say July. I'm going to keep my eyes open to see what happens in that arena. Either way, we can both agree that this is where their stock is headed soon enough. |

Dell can *possibly* improve.
A few quick points:
I am sure that people must realise that there is a difference between (1) the sections of Dell that sell to businesses and institutions (business products [better, more stable/reliable products in my opinion]; often bunches of very large orders for larger entities; often lots of little orders for smaller entities), versus (2), the sections of Dell that sell to consumers (consumer products [slightly higher product failure rate in my opinion {as is the case with mostly all consumer products}]; often lots of little orders). I perceive the former as much stronger and better run than the latter.
Looking ahead, I'd argue that Dell needs to rediscover obsession with quality of product, rather than a pre-occupation with "selling" and "cost-cutting/efficiency drives".
Dell cannot compete with companies like Acer on price. Acer (and others) build extremely low-cost equipment in China/Singapore/elsewhere and ship to re-sellers -- but also direct on occasion -- at very low prices. People buy the "super-low-cost brands" with the expectation that they are "pretty much screwed" (at least, in terms of "support") if something goes wrong. This is not the case with Dell -- and that is a laudable feature of buying from Dell.
Dell should rely on build quality, and quality of service/interaction. This means abandoning attempts to compete with entities like Acer on price.
If Dell commits to being a quality company that sells quality products with 3Y Warranties + a high level of support *as standard* (i.e., integrated into the price) -- and as a result, sells those quality products for realistic prices (higher prices), I think it can prosper again.
A good metaphor for Dell, in my opinion, would be to "be more like Volkswagen" in its aims and outlook. Naturally, that will require a massive culture change in Dell. |
