|

For a second time, a technician was dispatched to my house to replaced a motherboard. I noticed that the static safe bag had a label that say "Refurbished" when they send me a hard drive it had the same label. When I order the laptop it came with non-dell ram sticks? WTF, when I order ram sticks it had the Dell label. I'm confuse, anybody out there had notice this? |

This happens all the time actually. The reasoning given is that your computer is no longer "new" so they will not replace faulty parts with "new" parts, just replacement parts which are "refurbished".
I'd hazard a guess that about the only times you'd ever see "new" parts replaced in an old system would be after an escalation that went your way, or the repair takes place within the first 21 days of ownership. Outside of that I can't see "new" parts being sent to replace on an old system.
Oh, and this is not just a Dell thing either. Many, MANY major suppliers out there do the same thing. If you have a part that needs to be replaced, they'll ship out refurbished parts to do the task. Not just for computers either. |

Though not for other expensive purchases, appliances and cars.
Dell parts aren't all that furbished to start with. After all, yours was 'new' and IT failed.
Refurbs can be anything. They're just categorized as that because they were once shipped as new and returned, for whatever reason. Where you get in trouble with Dell refurbs is when they were returned for an intermittent. Such systems can have 3 owners in as many months, they get shipped out over and over again and 'testing' never catches the problem.
The testing isn't very comprehensive, even when the operator knows what they're doing, which most of Dell's operators don't any more. People who know stuff cost more. So Dell just plops temps down in front of a pile of returns, gives them a halfass diagnostic that will pass defective drives and memory, and says "if it passes put it in this pile, if it fails put it in the other pile. No in-between, and they're not given the history of the return, though they wouldn't know what to do with it if they were. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

i have worked for dell and am not sure to be very honest, why i hell dell customers are so pampered and that is the only reason why few people starts cribbing for the mistakes they make and then says i got a piece of shit from dell.....
guyz go through the whole contract once when you get anything from anywhere and i´m sure you´ll be satisfied with what companies have to offer you...
and yes the best person in dell who can help you the one to whom you speak for the first time.....after all they are also humans and they would not help you if you talk some shit with them or any of there colleagues as they have an extensive data of every word that comes out of your mouth....
lemme know if i can be of any help further if you guyzzz and am sure most of you would like to break my head but hey, i told you something you should know...... _________________ am a dell employee |

Uniquesunny, if you are a Dell employeee you havent been there long. Dhell customers are hardly "pampered" and if you do 2 seconds of research you'll come accross thousands of complaints ranging from changing terms on sale and never informing the customer, to never shipping product ( then harassing the clients on credit...for product they never recieved) to poor support and theft or fraud of every kind.
If you truly are a Dell employee, then the PIP and pink slip are likely already on their way . Dell is laying off people faster than they are producing PC's. Start looking for work NOW.
True enough, for every 100 complaints I read, there's 1 who you can tell has no clue and is bitching about a non-issue. They're rare though, 99% of what you'll read are factual ( and often well documented) accounts of screwing the customer...and the employee...in every way.
Enjoy your pink slip. I'm sure the cheque is in the mail......

And for every one you read posted, >1000 go undocumented.
For the last reported 3-year period, Dell has 8 times the BBB complaints as HP, adjusted for volume (unadjusted, it's 11 times).
I work with airline pilots, transporting them from a hotel to ground destinations. These are intelligent, informed computer customers. If I mention Dell, they already know the whole story from either experience or word of mouth.
You dellions keep imagining to yourself that your customers are just imagining their problems. Then in about 6 months if that long, imagine having a job. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

| Why would you give the guy a hard time? How is he wrong? Refurbished parts are almost an industry standard outside of 21 days... you know that if you have worked anywhere in the business. It looks like you guys are really just going out of your way to slander, even though someone is giving a plausible explanation or show that there has been some improvement in the way things are done. |

padraig, Go crawl back under that Dhell blanket they gave/pay you for. Referbish are not industry standard. They are what they can get aways with. You can and will get new if you know they are doing it. You say "No to referbish and yes to new parts" Period! _________________ Former employee of Dell and can say that they

Refurb is standard in the computer industry. You can get the phone answerer to 'promise' new, but you're unlikely to get it.
Refurb is NOT standard in the electronics industry. I worked for Panasonic, Sony, Mitsubishi, and JVC and there was NO SUCH THING as refurb warranty parts. These are consumer products in the same or lower price category as computers.
You can get a refurb Ford waterpump at a discount, by asking for it. But Ford does NOT replace warranty parts with refurbs. Neither does Maytag, GE, Whirlpool, GM, Hyundai........... _________________ Rocke T Sinetist
