more updates.
so, a total of 6 weeks after asking for a replacement, I did get a studio 1537.
The power supply was broken on arrival. I've since gotten a replacement. However, whenever the power supply + battery are in use (aka, charging), a high pitch squeeling noise is made from the back of the laptop. They have asked me so send it in to be examined.

Ideally it should be either charging or running off the adapter, but not both. The adapter is too small to do both right at the same time.
More cut corners, more halfass Chinese engineering. You're never really out of the woods with Dell. But at least after all the stalling, you got SOMEthing.
