I've actually had pretty good experience with Dell over the years. I've bought a lot of hardware from them, both personal and business. Usually stuff arrives within a few days in good shape. I've never seen anything like this.
On March 11th I bought a 3008WFP monitor. The ship date was a week out. And then it moved. Still about a week out. Then it moved again. All told they moved the ship date back 4 times. It appeared as if once we got within about 2 days of when they'd actually have to ship it, they moved it back.
Calls to Dell customer care were pointless. No one would tell me anything other than "supply problems". When pressed, they admitted they couldn't tell me what those supply problems were or when they might be resolved.
Now that same monitor is on sale again, which kind of suggests that Dell is trying to move a lot of them. And that's a bit odd if they can't actually ship them.
I've never had any sort of experience with Dell anywhere close to this bad. For that matter, when dealing with customer support at Dell I've never encountered this.... tone... in their voices.
It's a shame, I really used to like dealing with Dell. |

The 'tone' comes from weariness. Customers repeatedly asking questions for which management supplies no answers, like "where's my ordered product?".
Dell has evolved into a total bullshit factory. Bullshit the customers, bullshit the employees, bullshit the investors. Their Chinese suppliers are hosing them, but Dell has let themselves become dependent on Chinese, so they have no recourse, helpless to solve model-wide problems.
The 'tone' you hear is that of desperation. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

Aside the 17 and 19" monitors in Consumer sales, I watched an increasing amount of models go into backorder status starting with the last round of Days of Deals. Marketing kept pushing promos with 20-24" monitors that every customer was snapping up. Then came the expected upgrades to larger monitors for those higher-end buyers who didn't want to wait.
While the 30" monitor isn't often requested, the increase in demand certainly created an issue for customers like yourself.
I would like to help you more. Unfortunately I'm nine days past my dismissal/lay off and getting my former co-workers to give me customer info could cost them their job. However, I will message one tomorrow and see if I can get an idea of the actual ETA for various monitor sizes. Makes it inconspicuous enough. _________________ I didn't quit Dell. Dell quit me. |

Well, the 3008WFP is showing an internal ship time of 8 days. I can't see a reason why you wouldn't get your monitor any time soon. _________________ I didn't quit Dell. Dell quit me. |

I got my order within a week!
Very surprising!
The monitors and the printer came separately about 3 days after the smaller stuff like the speakers, wireless keyboard & mouse combo, external hard drive and powerbar. |

| To OP-- there was a backorder on that paticular model, so, although very popular, the issue experienced on the manufacturing floor would not allow for timely shipment. Bummer to be sure, but you should have been told that that was an ESTIMATED delivery date... again, no one promises anything, and it is no different than anything else you may order that would become delayed for this type of difficulty. Were they rude? Not forthcoming? Abusive? Probably not... it is unfortunate, but these things happen. |

I've had to wait 2 months on backordered model helicopter parts. The dealer wasn't hosing me. For one thing, they didn't charge my mastercard until they shipped the part. For another, I could find the part elsewhere and cancel that order with a 30-second phone call.
There is no such thing as a 30-second phone call to Dell. It takes at least 2 minutes just to get hung up on, then 4 more of those to reach someone in the "wrong department". Then 4 more of THOSE cycles to reach the "right" department, who will either say they can't cancel, it's already cancelled, or say they cancelled but didn't really and it arrives anyway 2 months later.
The helicopter dealer gave me estimated ship dates, which weren't met because of issues outside their control (vendors, customs). An estimated ship date is not a promise. Besides, a Dell promise has a negative value.
Another characteristic of dealing with Dell is that if you're buying a 'sale', 'package', or 'discount' item, your odds of ever receiving it go down at least 50% right there. The time you'll spend just trying to ascertain status is worth more than the discount would have been had they shipped it. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist
