...until now of course. I got a Dell XPS M1530 as a graduation present. My family spent a pretty penny on it (Def. more than they should have.) And of course they spent a good chunk of that on Dell's warranty and pc care tech support shitfest. Well recently I've been having problems accessing the internet. I tried every possible thing I could think of - System Restore, Check Disk, updating drivers, etc. But my wireless card will just not work.
I called Tech Support. First of all, award winning my ass, more like award buying. The first time I called I was on hold for 47 minutes and then some little Indian guy popped on and told me I was placed in the wrong queue and that I'd have to call back. Poor guy, I was irate and I screamed at him. In hindsight, that was rude. But I was aggravated. Anyways, I finally talked to someone and explained the situation, told her what all I'd done etc. Well after 2 and a half hours of her talking me through exactly what I'd already done and then having me take my laptop apart (which is RIDICULOUS by the way) she informed me that I'd have to reinstall the OS.
Now since I haven't done really anything on this laptop - downloaded anything, been to anything questionable and I have very uptodate virus protection I'm a bit peeved. A 6 mo. old laptop should not have to be reset.
Well I asked her that instead of me having to do this, could the send someone to do it for me, since after all I do have warranty for like the next three years. Ohh, but they don't send people to service your computer unless they have to install something.

0_o So pretty much I want to scream. This is ridiculous.

Yeah, Dell's support won the Dell "costs us nothing and does nothing" award. Their answerers barely know how to operate a computer, much less fix one.

First of course, Dell's phone answerers can only tell you what their search engine tells them to. And it's been jiggered to say "reinstall OS" no matter what the problem is, because that costs them nothing. It gives you a 2-3 hour chore, and seldom solves anything. I can't tell you unequivocally that the OS doesn't need to be reinstalled, but I also can't see for a second why that would be necessary to make a single peripheral work, when it used to and quit.

I don't know what the problem is with Dell's wireless, but it DOES have problems. Possibly related to BIOS, responsibility for which Dell has completely thrown off onto their halfass Chinese vendors. Recent models have had a half dozen revisions just trying to get the fan to work right, and it still doesn't except sometimes.

You've already found why people grumble about Dell. Their shit doesn't work, and their support doesn't support, even on the premium lines.

sorry....but i aint buying the "fact" that you didnt do anything to your laptop and it just fell apart. that just isnt how stuff works....

im not saying that dell laptops are the best, but they are better than the others out there, especially the M1530

most of the forums out there rate it at a 4.5 / 5 and this is from over 5000 reviews not just one or two.........now that has to amount to something doesnt it.....

maybe you should visit the my shit is busted section of the forum and try and post your problem there and try and do something about the wireless card.....

also...about being told to reinstall your OS...im not sure how that helps....but what you need to understand is--If i have a gun against my head...and im asked to confess to some shit that i dont even know about...ill be singing my ass off confessing..

thats what happens to tech reps....YOU TAKE USERS THROUGH THESE TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS AND GIVE THEM THESE ANSWERS...OR YOUR FIRED........

what would you do????

i guess i know what you would have thought...LEAVE THAT JOB IT ISNT WORTH IT......but dont kid yourself.....

Michael Dell, is that you disguised as Goldenbrown?

What went wrong is that Goldenbrown's parents apparently dropped her on her head when she was a baby. Maybe she should use the screen name Goldenblond since she appears to be so naive and dumb.

Picking pockets without a persons knowledge or approval of you picking their pocket is a crime, a form of larceny which involves the stealing of money and valuables from the person of a victim without their noticing the theft at the time. My dear Goldenbrown, Dells' strategy is to sell disposable products developed by someone else and pick the pockets of global consumers.

It has finally caught up with Dell and the downward spiral has begun. Check out the current stock price, hovering around where it was when the company initially went public.

Shame on Dell!
Bad girl Goldenbrown! Bad girl!
Go lie down.

Let's aim at issues rather than people, to the greatest extent possible. You both realize, that this thread is 3 months old?

OP didn't say it "fell apart", but that the wireless won't work and support can't fix it.

Dell laptops DO fall apart. Reviewers run them for a week. It takes a few months before the lid hinges break, the power jack breaks off the motherboard, the power adapter plug breaks off the cord, the keys jump off the keyboard. That's IF you get to use it that long before the adapter, the battery, the display card, and the MB regulator quit. These are the common, frequent ways in which Dell laptops fall apart. It's a matter of record.

I can tell you through our sales, that dells power jack problems aren't unique to dell! I have always favored dell laptops, but I'm lately a fan of Acer as well.
